The dates are set! This August, we are looking forward to our eco-trip for a once in a life-time opportunity to swim with hundreds of manta rays in the UNESCO Biosphere of the Baa Atoll in the Maldives. We will have the opportunity to learn from researchers from Manta Trust, about the biology of manta rays. Participants will also have the opportunity to submit photos of the manta rays in Hanifaru Bay to help in the photo ID of the manta rays.
This eco-trip is in support of LAMAVE, an NGO based in the Philippines and focuses on conservation of marine biodiversity. Qi Retreats pledges 10% of proceeds to support LAMAVE. Participants will get to learn about the work and projects of LAMAVE, and enjoy movie and documentary evenings about conservation. They can also participate in supporting LAMAVE through Conservation Sew Mates, and donate for a good cause towards marine conservation and sustainable livelihoods.
We are excited about this eventful trip, and to have the chance to contribute to marine conservation, hear back from us soon about our trip review! Our 10 spots have been filled, for more info, contact us firstname.lastname@example.org.

Day 1 of our yoga retreat at the oceanfront resort Bohol Beefarm, we started out bright and sunny on the ocean with some SUP YOGA action! This was a challenging session with some waves but the ladies Marion from Switzerland and Laura Robinson from the UK tested their strength and balance on the SUP, paddling into the waves and even performed a doubleboat partner pose on the board. Great fun and more ocean adventures to come on Day 2...

It’s all about the breathing
Sure, yoga is known to be a spiritual practice to many, but the key and underlying principles to yoga actually teach slower breathing techniques and exercises, designed to relax your immediate mental and physical state. When scuba diving, these techniques, and exercises are essential in calming you before you hit the water, and once you are submerged, too. As you start to really hone in on these skills, your overall scuba diving experience will improve. You should start to notice your dives will last longer and generally become a lot more pleasant as your focus sharpens, soaking in much more of the dive. Committing to an ongoing yoga program will teach you to become aware of your irregular breathing patterns. This especially becomes useful when faced with unexpected challenges below the water’s surface. The point is to catch yourself doing this by becoming self-aware since breathing is something we do every day without even thinking. Being able to catch yourself breathing irregularly allows you to then be able to change your focus and concentrate on calming yourself by bringing your breaths to the centre of your attention again. This will, in turn, keep your mind alert and your body in a relaxed state to handle any sticky situations that may suddenly arise.

Our final big day of the Freedive and Yoga retreat in Bohol!
After the successful completion of the AIDA 1-star freediver course, we took to the seas by banca (traditional filipino boat) to the marine sanctuary of Balicasag Island for some fun freediving action! Balicasag island has amazing marine life and coral reef, with steep walls dropping to over 30m and blessed with healthy colourful soft and hard corals. A diver's heaven here, Balicasag attracts mainly scuba divers, and now the government has limited the number of divers to 300 per day.
After a 40mins boat ride to Balicasag Island, under the comforting shade of the big tree, we stretched and warmed up with a morning yoga session with the ocean view. Practising yoga in nature right by the sea is a completely refreshing experience. Thanks to Balicasag Island Dive Resort, we had a relaxed and rejuvenating session at their beautiful grounds. Balicasag Island Dive Resort is the only resort on the island with pool and restaurant, not forgetting the incredible reef system just at their house reef.
Finally, time for some freediving action! We quickly took off into the ocean to explore and experience freedom in one breath. The girls put their skills to use, duck diving into the water and freediving with a buddy system. With the training and safety techniques learnt through the AIDA freediver course, the girls found it relaxing and fun to be one with the ocean in the most natural way. We found some nice swim-throughs, and watched scuba divers beneath us pass by. Also a big school of jackfish in the deep! Then off to the next dive spot to look for turtles. Here at the famous dive site called Black Forest, the turtles are aplenty, feeding on the sea grass, they are not shy and we were able to come so close to them by freediving! Such an amazing experience being up-close and personal with the friendly turtles.
Girls just wanna have fun!

We welcome 4 lively energetic ladies from Australia- Alex, Kathy, Krista and Sala. Day 1: In tropical paradise in the Philippines, we were blessed with an amazing sunset in Bohol to start off the first evening right on the beach in Panglao island. Starting with theory sessions and learning about what is freediving, how to breathe, safety and rescue. The most important rule never freedive alone!
Big Day 2 early start with yoga stretch and breathing session, practicing breath-hold on the mats. Alex did an amazing 2minutes easily! Then an introduction to freediving equipment and briefing on our first Open Water session.
Finally time for our water session! Experiencing the freedom in one breath, the girls learnt the different disciplines of Freediving namely Free Immersion and Constant Weight, diving in a relaxed and safe manner and learning rescue techniques. A lot of fun in the water and easily diving to depths of 9-10m. Girl power! Tomorrow is the big grand final day where we put our Freediving skills to explore the marine sanctuary at Balicasag Island.
