'Amihan' is back! This means the tradewinds are blowing easterly, typhoon season is over and we welcome the warm sunny weather and calm ocean in Bohol, Philippines. What better way than to welcome these great conditions on the island with our SUP YOGA retreat.
Day 1: We spent the first day relaxing on the sandy shores of Alona beach, and then the first SUP YOGA session on the ocean with Gemma from Canada. It was Gemma's first time on the SUP board doing yoga. Here's Gemma working her way into downward facing dog on the ocean, and embracing every breath and moment on the board.
Day 2 - Taking a traditional boat or banca out to Balicasag island, we started the morning with a refreshing beach yoga session, practising the sequence which we would try on the SUP board, and also practising inversions such as chakrasana, headsteads and shoulder stands. Beach yoga is a great way to enjoy yoga outdoors. We had our ocean-view session under the shade, and relaxed in shavasana with the breeze from the ocean. What an incredible way to start the morning absolutely re-energized in nature! Joslyn from Mumbai, India joined us for the retreat after completing her PADI Open Water diver course in Bohol. Yoga and diving is a good combination as they both involve focusing on deep and relaxed breathing.
Balicasag island is a marine park famous for its pristine coral reef, teeming with abundant marine life. We explored the ocean by snorkeling and freediving, experience oneness with the ocean in a single breath underwater.
After freediving, we took the boat to visit the uninhabited Virgin island. Setting our feet in the soft white sand and crystal clear waters, we had a glimpse of the future church to be built on the island and enjoyed a relaxing time there.
Day 3 : Highlight of the trip - sunset SUP Yoga session, this time we turned it up a notch on the board with warrior poses, shoulder stands, more inversions, planks and more core body work outs to build more strength and balance! The slight waves also challenged our balance on the board! And finally we were rewarded with a magical sunset to end our SUP yoga retreat.
